Britanny blitzes it!!

Brittany Broben

Brittany Broben (QAS) has won Australia’s first medal at the 18th FINA World Junior Diving Championships with a SILVER in the Girls B Group 10m Platform final.

Broben finished second behind China’s Yi Lan with an outstanding score of 370.75 .

Yi Lan won the GOLD with a score of 405.90 and Samantha Bromberg (USA) was third with a score of 336.55.

Broben and Yi Lan completely dominated the final and it was the chinese divers consistency over the final three rounds that proved to be the difference between first and second place.

Broben’s final event will be the Girls 3m Synchronised final on Saturday 6pm Arizona time.

Brittany is the first athlete from the Diving Australia NTID program to medal at a FINA event and is currently on scholarship with the Queensland Academy of Sport.

In other results from the first two days of competition Anna Gelai (VIC) finished 8th in the Girls A Group 1m Final and Broben took out 6th place in the Girls B Group 1m Final.

Angus Colloff (NSW) missed out on the finals of the Boys A Group 3m event, a hotly contested event with 32 entries and he will now focus on the 1m and 10m events.

Matthew Barnard (QLD) and James Connor (VIC) finished 11th in the Boys 3m Synchronised event.

Anna Gelai (VIC) has won Australia’s second medal of the 18th FINA Junior Diving World Championships in the Girls Group A 3m final.

Tian Liu (China) comfortably won the event but Gelai showed great composure by holding off the challenge of Ying Wei (China) and Viktoriya Potyekhina (Ukraine) to take silver with less than 5 points separating the three divers.  Lui edged out Potyekhina for the bronze medal.

James Connor (VIC) came extremely close to winning Australia’s third medal but was denied in all three of his events.  James competing in the Boys Group B events showed great consistency by finishing 4th in the 1 metre, 4th in the 3 metre and 5th in the 10 metre finals.
