Level 1 Diving Coach Practical Workshop

Ready to take the next step in your journey as a diving coach?

The Diving Australia Level 1 Diving Coach Practical Workshop is an exciting opportunity for aspiring coaches to develop the practical knowledge, skills and confidence required to begin their coaching journey and work towards becoming a Diving Australia accredited Level 1 Coach.

The workshop will be led by Mat Helm — Olympian diver, Olympian coach and highly esteemed diving coach with decades of experience in the sport. Mat brings a wealth of knowledge from an exceptional career spanning both elite competition and coaching, and will share his experience and practical insight throughout the day.

The course will focus on the practical components required as part of the Diving Australia Level 1 Coach accreditation pathway, providing participants with the opportunity to learn from an experienced coach and gain hands-on experience in a supportive environment.

This course is one component of the requirements to become a Diving Australia Level 1 Coach.

There are additional learning and accreditation requirements involved in attaining DA Level 1 Coach Accreditation. These will be discussed during the course and include:

-  First Aid and CPR Certifications
-  Working with Children Clearance
-  Sport Integrity Australia e-learning certificates
-  25 hours of supervised practical coaching alongside an accredited DA Level 2 Coach

Participants will also be provided with access to the pre-course online e-learning, which forms part of the course curriculum.

Please note, Level 1 Coaches must be 16 years of age before they may be accredited, however coach candidates do not need to be 16 to participate in this course.

Cost: $150 per participant

COURSE TIMETABLE

8:00am – 10:00am | Classroom – Diving Australia Office
A practical and interactive session covering the foundations of being a diving coach, including coaching philosophy, athlete development, safety, communication, working with athletes and parents, and creating a positive coaching environment.

10:00am – 10:30am | Morning Tea

10:30am – 12:30pm | Dryland Practical
Practical coaching activities covering movement preparation, warm-ups, stretching, strength and conditioning, lesson planning and foundational diving skills.

12:30pm – 1:00pm | Lunch

1:00pm – 1:30pm | Levels & Community Cup Briefing
A short briefing on the Diving Australia levels and Community Cup skills before heading to the pool.

1:30pm – 3:30pm | Pool Practical – Brisbane Aquatic Centre
The afternoon will be a hands-on practical session working with divers and putting coaching skills into practice.

The afternoon pool session will also be OPEN TO ALL DIVING QUEENSLAND COACHES (current accredited coaches, please register in the seperate event registration for the Coaches workshop here), providing an opportunity for coaches to come along, participate, learn from Mat and work alongside the Level 1 course participants.

This will be a great opportunity to share knowledge across our coaching community and have coaches of different experience levels learning together.
